He played in 1871 to 1878 as Pitcher, 3rd Base, Short Stop, Outfielder, 1st Base and 2nd Base for the Providence Grays, the Chicago White Stockings, the Cincinnati Reds, the Philadelphia Whites, the Hartford Dark Blues, the Philadelphia Athletics, the Baltimore Canaries and the Rockford Forest Citys.
